The Client
Based in the US, the client is a global management consulting firm with offices in major business centers in 32 countries. The client provides CEO-level advice across a broad range of industries and service practices.
The Situation
The client was looking to improve the efficiency of their consultants traveling worldwide by providing high-speed Internet access wherever they were. At the same time, the client wanted to manage the cost associated with superior access. Further, the IT executives needed to bill each consultant individually for their use while still leveraging an aggregate purchase, and keep support and administration costs low.
The Sayers Contribution
The client’s IT team looked to Sayers to help create a set of requirements that would support the business unit needs as well as meet the IT objectives. Sayers confirmed what the client suspected; the current provider was unable to meet their needs. The client team selected iPass as the remote access provider, but still needed to respond to the billing challenges. Sayers developed a specialized billing solution that provided end user credit card billing functionality—allowing individual consultant-based billing. At the same time, the client was able to enjoy the pricing advantages of aggregate purchasing.
The Impact
The economic impact has been significant. The client estimates the increased efficiency has resulted in increased revenue of $1,800,000 annually. Subtracting the total cost of the solution ($360,000) results in a net gain of $1,440,000. The value the client places on having a more productive and empowered consultant workforce is even greater in a talent business.
